Kate and I made it to Reno, Nevada where we stretched our eyes at mountains grazing the sky and braced ourselves on roads that twined through meters[i] of snow. Wonderful Julia picked us up at the airport and played host, leading us through the gigantic trees to a lake more lovely (and far cleaner) than dear Lake Champlain.
The shortest trees were 50 or 60 feet[ii] tall, and the tallest far beyond any distance I can imagine clearly. They weren’t all complacent though, and Kate narrowly escaped becoming tree food!
This poor soul pondered the trees magnitude for too long and turned into an agonized rock. Kate and Julia soothed him by imitating his posture and expression.
Nevada was wonderful: land of the light jacket (despite the snow, the temperature remains bearable). We flew out of the San Fran airport and into Bangkok with no troubles. But more on that later.
Love, Kasey
[i] Metric system, baby! I’m a total convert. Except that this morning, still trying to adjust to the 24 hour clock system I subtracted two from the time and couldn’t figure out why I woke up naturally at 7:00 am. I forgot that in the first 12 hours of the day you DON”T subtract two.
[ii] Maybe not a total convert, then.
